Have you heard about  Makeup Free Mondays?  I followed a link from AOL’s beauty channel over to The Beauty Bean to find out what Makeup Free Monday was all about. Alexis Wolfer, creator of The Beauty Bean website wants to change the way women think about natural inner beauty.

I deeply understand and value the power that makeup has to empower women and boost self esteem — it is, after all, why I started an online women’s magazine that focuses on beauty inside and out. In no way is Makeup Free Mondays meant to discount the allure of cosmetics or the power of beauty,” says Wolfer.

Yet after hurrying into a work meeting with a male colleague, Wolfer found herself apologizing for not wearing makeup. She then realized how it ‘ridiculous’ it was that she felt the need to apologize for something that wasn’t inherently ‘wrong’ — and for something which it turns out the colleague didn’t even notice. That’s when the message really hit home for Wolfer.

I love makeup, but I go makeup-less frequently. One of the perks of working at home is that I can work in my pjs and bare face. (Another beauty secret – I usually let my hair air dry naturally. Shh. Don’t tell. It’s fairly scandalous, I know).  I don’t really need a special day to give me an excuse .

Mirror On the Wall Sxc.hu MichelleIf you’d like to join the growing Makeup Free Monday trend, then Alexis Wolfer suggests the following:

*Go without makeup on Mondays.
*Own the makeup free look – do not apologize, because that defeats the purpose of going au naturel in the first place.
*Round up some gals to got Makeup Free on Mondays with you.
*Talk about “real beauty” and “better body image” with other people, shine a little light on the subject.
*Share your bare face with the world through The Beauty Bean’s Facebook page or on Twitter with the tag #MakeupFreeMondays.
*Do you have any unopened, but still fresh makeup sitting around? Then donate it to someone who can use it. The Beauty Bean suggests a woman’s shelter or Dress For Success.
