Eye Creams: Explained & Reviewed

I use an eye cream every morning and every night. I believe in eye cream so heartily that I even suggest it to my 17 year old daughter. You are never too young to begin a good skin care regime.

Eye creams work to prevent or reduce the signs of aging. They contain antioxidant ingredients that fight free radicals. This is important because the eye area is one of the first parts of the face to show signs of aging. Always use an eye cream. Always. (Please).

The best way to apply an eye cream is to use your pinky. Dab a small dot of cream underneath the eye, from outer edge to inner edge, with a pat-pat-pat motion. Don’t get the cream too close to your eye opening, it will warm and melt in to the skin. Don’t pull the skin.  The patting motion helps to reduce puffiness.

Some eye creams are meant for above the eye, as well. Read your directions carefully. Allow the product to absorb, then apply regular facial moisturizer. To ensure that you get an even eye shadow application, apply a base of foundation or primer before you apply a shadow.

Eye creams are intended for a variety of purposes. A few of the intended uses include:

*Anti-aging
*Moisturizing
*Firming
*Lightening dark circles
*Reducing under-eye bags

When it comes to choosing your formula, keep in mind that it’s okay to layer a couple of products if you need to. For example, apply both a firming and a moisturizing formula.

I’ve tried a lot of eye creams. A few of my favorites on the lower end of the price range include formulas made by Burt’s Bees and L’Oreal. I’ve had three different eye creams sent to me in the last couple of months for review.

The first was Relastin Eye Silk. Relastin Eye Silk Michelle Relastin uses a Zinc Firming Complex to improve elasticity in the under eye area.

Elastin is the protein that allows the skin to bounce back after smiling, frowning, etc.

I really liked how this eye cream felt on my skin. It left it with a velvety texture, smooth. I felt that it moisturized this area well, but did not notice any big difference in the appearance of the skin beneath my eyes.

Relastin Eye Silk is a  three-time winner of the Allure Magazine Editor’s Choice of Beauty Award.

CosMedix Eye Believe MichelleThe next eye cream that I tried was Eye Believe Liquid Crystal Serum by CosMedix.

CosMedix is a cosmeceutical grade line of natural skin care products. The products are plant based and free from artificial colors or preservatives.  CosMedix uses a balanced, Chirally correct type of science. That means that ingredients are filtered to contain only the molecules that will positively interact with the complexion.

This eye cream is fun to use. It changes in color from purple to green. It’s a sticky-type eye cream, so leave it for night time use. You can also dot the Eye Believe along your lip line to combat line thinning and lines.

I noticed a smoothing in the fine lines at the corner of my eyes when I used this product for 2 weeks.

Kenzo Belle de Jour Angel Eyes MichelleThen, I got a bottle of Kenzo’s Belle de Jour Angel Eyes  to try this week. I have to admit that I am a big fan of most, if not all, things Kenzo. I love the products, I love the thought put into every aspect of the way they work, smell, and look.

The Angel Eyes contains White Lotus and the formula is clinically proven to reduce the level of Cortisol in the body. Cortisol is a hormone that is produced by stress.

This eye cream will soothe and protect your skin, while also calming you down. The focus is on producing “Sparkle Eyes” by enveloping the skin in a “bubble.”

You apply the Angel Eyes with a soft brush. It feels so cool on the skin. I tried it on my daughter last night and she actually said, “Ahhh,” as I applied it. I haven’t used it long enough to notice a reduction in the dark circles under my eyes, but I do notice that the under eye area  feels and looks smoother.  Plus, I cannot discount that ahh-factor.
