Introducing Maricar, Your Local Bookworm

I’m so excited to be manning the bookshelves here at Gadabout Media! If there’s one thing that I’ve never been able to stay away from, even as a child, it’s books! I’ve had well-meaning relatives say I was a lazy girl for preferring to read books instead of helping out in the kitchen. I’ve grown up to be a decent cook anyway, so I don’t, even for a moment, regret those hours spent reading countless books.
I read across many genres – romance, kid’s literature, thrillers, sci-fi, young adult, non-fiction. You’ll find that my posts will cover a good variety, including even cookbooks from time to time. There are a lot of exciting new books coming out these days, from both established and debut authors. But, that doesn’t mean we’ll forget about the classics. I’ll even tell you about really old finds that I occasionally come across at yard sales – such as a 100-year old geography book that I think is really cool!
I’ll also write about relevant news from the publishing industry. We’ll talk about the bestsellers, what’s being made into a movie, what’s new from popular authors, and so on.
Lately, I’ve been immersing myself in books for the middle-grade audience. The last four novels I’ve read are “Holes” by Louis Sachar, “The Penderwicks: A Summer Tale of Four Sisters, Two Rabbits, and a Very Interesting Boy” by Jeanne Birdsall, “The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book 1)” by Rick Riordan and “Bud, Not Buddy” by Christopher Paul Curtis. I have another batch on hold at my local library, with at least a couple of young adult novels.
So, tell me what you’ve read lately, or are reading now. I love to know what people have on their nightstands for late night reading, so do share!
