Woman Gives Birth to 15-Pound Baby

Oh wow, this one is giving me some sympathy pains. Wendi Dolton of Racine, Wisconsin, gave birth to a boy last Monday that tipped the scales at 15 pounds, 6 ounces. And get this: he was three weeks early!

Born via c-section, little Axel Laverne Dolton weighed nearly twice as much as the average newborn and though his parents were told he’d probably weigh at least ten pounds at birth, they weren’t prepared for the reality! Wendi said that she was a big baby as well, coming in at ten pounds, and that her shoulders actually had to be broken during delivery. Ouch!

Axel is the couple’s third child (first son), and is currently in the NICU to be monitored for a heart condition associated with premature births.

The largest baby on record goes to a woman in Italy who gave birth to a 22lb. 8 oz. baby boy in 1955, and an Indonesian mother gave birth to a 19 lb. 2 oz. baby earlier this year.
