Let’s Start with Personal Space

It is amazing to me how many people will decorate an entire house beautifully and end up with a master bedroom that looks like a refugee camp for homeless laundry, ski equipment, and unpacked boxes. The master bedroom is the center of your personal space!  If it is chaotic then it is likely it isn’t the refuge you need.

bedroom

This is my bedroom. I cleaned frantically this past weekend (long story) and it is now at it’s most basic and ready to be turned into a sanctuary. As you can see it has good bones. I love old houses!

One of the quickest decorating ideas in the world is a simple thought.  Keep your bedroom in order. If you can do that then the rest of your life will fall into place. I know it sounds weird but it does. Stop using the bedroom as the catch all for everything that doesn’t have a place. Clean it down to the bare bones and then live with it for awhile.

rose

I don’t know, maybe it is just me but when my room is in order I feel like I am in control. I like to have something in it that makes me smile. Right now it is orange roses. I love roses and orange is one of my favorite colors.  A couple of orange roses in a vase next to my bed gives me something to rest my eyes on.

What is it for you? Flowers? A color? A picture?

I’ve been preaching on this topic for years! When I was a professional organizer, this is the problem I ran into time and time again. People’s master bedroom was their dumping place for everything.

For my master bedroom, having a bottle of lotion, a picture of my husband and me and a good book is what makes me smile. :)

I wish you would take a working vacay and come organize me. I have let things slide for the past few years. I used to be incredibly organized. :/

I did this a few weeks ago, and then the entire family came down with the flu! Since I have young kids, the master bedroom always turns into the sick bay when somebody’s sick. I’m just right now putting things back in order now that we’re all better. :)

That happens here, too. My room seems to be where everyone gathers. :)
