Sew Something Slinky for Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is traditionally the time to pull out your prettiest underwear and slinkiest lingerie – but did you know that you can also sew your own lingerie?
Just imagine… custom-fitted nighties and camisoles, your choice of colors and fabrics for pretty underwear… Now that’s got to inspire a little Valentine’s Day fun!
If your local fabric store doesn’t carry lingerie-type fabrics or notions, there are lots of places online to shop. Fabric.com has an excellent stretch fabric department and Elingeria has kits and notions for bras and panties.
Fabric.com is even giving away a free pattern to sew your own camisole and tap pants!
The pattern is available as both a PDF or ZIP file, whatever works better for you.
Instructables has a basic lingerie sewing how-to, with techniques for using sheer fabrics and stretch lace being discussed.
BurdaStyle has a detailed pattern for a matching bra and underwear set. The pattern is designed for intermediate sewers, due to construction details like shaped cups and underwire.
You don’t even need a special pattern to make something that makes you feel wonderful. How about using your favorite simple dress pattern, but try out a fabric that’s softer, more sheer or a little lacier than normal…

Thanks for the cute pattern and tips. I won’t be making this for Valentine’s but think it’ll be better for the warmer months anyway
Great ideas Chloe…I will have to give it a shot sometime!
