How-To of the Day: Embroidered Easter Eggs
Easter is coming soon and these little embroidered Easter egg ornaments are a fun way to decorate for the holiday.
You’ll need pastel colored felt, a sewing machine and sewing machine thread. You can use either standard thread, or for a little extra glitz, rayon or even metallic machine embroidery thread.
To begin, cut egg shapes out of different colored felt – these ones are approximately two inches wide:

Place them on a second piece of felt, but don’t cut it out. Instead embroider across the eggs, using decorative stitches:

I used plain sewing machine thread and several different stitches on this egg. Stitch around the edge (use a straight stitch for this one) and cut out the egg. I used used pinking shears to add another decorative element. Stitch a piece of ribbon onto the top of the Easter egg as a hanger:

But what happens if your machine doesn’t have pre-programmed embroidery stitches?
A plain & simple zig-zag stitch works beautifully for this project too! I used three shades of variegated machine embroidery thread and worked zig-zags across the egg. Finish it the same way as the other eggs.

You can also make these into a little garland as well. Instead of sewing a ribbon hanger, stitch a long ribbon across the tops of multiple eggs.

Ok, now I want to see the next batch with some BEADS!! LOL
Those are so sweet… they could be popped into an envelope and mailed off… I love this idea. Hmmm… I think I need to make one for my mom…. and I’m with Cyndi- beads would be great, but so would handmade lace- Thanks for the inspiration, Chloe!
These would make great exchange projects… easy to mail and fun to make!
Oooh, I love this idea. (I’d like them with beads, too, Cyndi!) I also like Noreen’s idea of putting them in an envelope. What a nice little Easter gift.
