Are you planning your perfect wedding?

That means tons of expensive bills and hiring dozens of people to do everything from make your dress, play your music and arrange your flowers – right?

Well, the creative DIY bride doesn’t have to!

With the average wedding in the USA coming in at just under $30,000, there is a real push to find ways to hold a great party, express yourselves and still have some money left afterwards.   After all, would you rather spend that $30,000 on a down payment for a house or on a party that lasts one evening?

Yes, you can still hold the wedding of your dreams – you just need to be creative about it!

I got married a couple of years ago and ended up creating lots of different things for the wedding.  I sewed my own dress, made my own bouquet and collaborated with lots of friends and family to make everything from my fiance’s vest to the decorations and favors.

Yes, it was a lot of work – but in the end, my husband and I created a wedding that represented ourselves… and was completely worth all of the work.

Over the next couple of weeks I’m going to take a look at lots of different things that you can do to create your own DIY wedding!

  1. You know, having just done the calligraphy for my niece’s invitations, I was flabbergasted to see what they cost, and I cannot imagine spending $30,000 on a single day, no matter how amazing it is…you are so right about making the ceremony something that represents the two of you…and about putting the bulk of that money toward something like a home that you will build the marriage in!

I can’t wait to check out all your ideas. My mom made my gown, and the bridesmaids gowns when I got married, and I did my own flowers and centerpieces. It was hectic but fun, and everything turned out fabulous!

I can’t wait to read your ideas, Chloe! I believe in doing weddings frugally. They are important, but it’s the marriage that really counts. I did a lot of frugal and homemade things on my day and the whole thing turned out so lovely and filled with meaning.
