Great Idea for a Kitchen Island!
Last weekend I decided to get away with an old friend in Salado, Texas. It was an incredible time of laughing, catching up on sleep, laughing, eating, laughing, almost spitting coffee on the back of a guy’s head, laughing, laughing…antiquing…laughing…
The bed and breakfast that I stayed at was awesomeness. I loved the way it was decorated. I did, of course, take lots of pictures and I will be sharing some of the ideas I got.

One of the things I was most impressed with was the kitchen island. I have a peninsula that divides the cooking area and the eating area but I am not totally happy with it. Anyway…this was the bottom of a large, antique buffet. It was set in the center of the room just like an island would be and was used as a storage and preparation area.
The back was plain, obviously it is meant to go up against a wall, however the total effect of the piece in the kitchen was perfect. If you were going to use it in an area that gets wet alot you will want to use a food grade oil to keep the counters sealed. Just slather it on generously and allow it soak in overnight, and then buff off. You will need to repeat the process a couple of times a year.
When you are redecorating a kitchen try to keep an open mind and think outside the box. You may be able to find some unique item and spend less money as well.
