Consider Renting a Christmas Tree

treesAre you looking for small ways to begin living green?  Here is one that I’m sure you might not have considered.  Did you know instead of having a artificial (plastic) tree or having a tree cut down you can actually rent a tree?

Think about it.  When you go get your live Christmas tree aren’t you doing the same thing as any other person who is cutting down a tree?  I know I have been guilty of this in the past.  It’s not because you don’t want to do what’s right for the environment, most often you are just not aware of the choices you may have.

There are businesses who will rent a Christmas tree to that is live.  Instead of the tree being tossed out to the dump when you are done with it, the tree is replanted and able to see another year.    It is returned to a nursery or a forest where it continues to grow and produce oxygen.  It’s like doing your part to improve air quality.  Another thing you can do is use the tree in your own yard and have planted their for your enjoyment all year long.

If you decide to rent a Christmas tree you really don’t care for it differently than the cut trees.  You want to keep the tree as cool as possible so you wouldn’t put it next to the heater or the fireplace.  Most companies do not allow you to put tinsel on it but small clear lights are fine.  Your family will still enjoy the tree as much as they would before.  It may even open up the communication lines to explain to your children why you made the change.  It’s a teachable moment indeed.

Make a decision to have a greener holiday.  Look for the Christmas Tree rental company near you.
