Leaf Headband Thanksgiving Kids Craft
Today, we tried out another of the Thanksgiving kids’ craft ideas we have been brainstorming. It is a simple, but fun, headband craft. You can use any shape that reminds you of Thanksgiving, but the leaves give the nicest effect.

When a boy won't model his craft, bear is always willing to help out...
To make this craft, you’ll need a 12 x 12 piece of heavier cardstock, scraps of papers in different fall colors, a glue stick, a stapler, leaf die cut or punch and scissors or a paper cutter.
Begin by using your scissors or paper cutter to cut two 1 inch by 12 inch strips from the 12 x 12 piece of cardstock. These pieces will form the headband. (You could use a cereal box instead, but you’ll need to color it because the cardboard will show through.) Overlap the two pieces by about an inch and staple them together to form one long one inch strip. This is a good time to see if the headband is too big by wrapping it around your child’s head. Mine was about two inches too long, but I needed about an inch of that for overlap at the end, so just decided to overlap it a bit more instead of cutting it off.
Punch out a lot of leaves using your die cut machine or punch. I think we ended up using around 30 leaves, but it varies according to the size of the leaf. You can also cut them by hand, but we had the dies, so we did it this way. We used paint sample pieces instead of paper scraps because we had a ton from all the remodeling projects everyone has been doing and they were exactly the same size as the smallest Sizzix die. The samples made very nice leaves and I was happy we were able to use them instead of having them thrown away.
Now, apply glue to a leaf and stick it on the headband. Continue until the headband only has about an inch of space on each end uncovered and then staple the two remaining ends of the band together to form the finished headband. Glue a few leaves over the stapled spot and let the headband sit for an hour or so to dry.
For children that don’t want headbands, you can modify the project to create a leaf bracelet instead.
