Spring Is Coming – Wooden Letter Mixed Media Fun
The first day of spring is only a few days away and I am frantically working on a mixed media project that I planned to do over a year ago and just got to. (I highly recommend art therapy, by the way. It is a lovely, lovely thing!) The project is a set of wooden letters that spell out “Bloom” and were cut in a mixed letter font. The Etsy shop I used has a few sets available for sale if you like the idea. I think they have “Grow” for sale, too, but, if not, they should be able to cut them for you or will send you a suggestion for mixed font letters for another word you like if you ask them to come up with a mixed font design for it. I’m thinking that after I finish up with these phrases, I’ll ask for “Create” or something like that to use a permanent decoration for my studio.
The reason I like to use these letters is that they are cut from nice, thick material and really look great once they are painted and decorated. They really are a nice housewarming gift or a decoration for a child’s room. You can just use scrapbooking papers and a few embellishments on them, but I like to do my own thing a little, too. Right now, it is birds. I swiped my mom’s owl collection from the 70’s (She said I could.) and they seem to be inspiring me.
Anyway, here’s a glimpse into the process, but I’m only half done, so I can’t show you a finished project! Do you like to decorate for an entire season as well as the little holidays along the way, too?

I love the mixed font idea. Your “Bloom” is shaping up beautifully!
Are the letters wood or chipboard or what? The etsy shop doesn’t say.
Never mind
I found it. They’re made of MDF.
Eileen,
They’re wooden, but not regular shelf board type wood. I’m not sure if they’re a wood composite product or something? They’re very sturdy.
Love the shape of the letters, Katelyn! Can’t wait to see the finished sign
They’re so cute! I think that this is a great gift idea! Thanks for the inspiration
