Reading Lamps and Headboards
The bedroom pictured is at the Marriott in Arlington, Texas. The colors chosen were not at all what I expected but were just beautiful. Who would have thought red was relaxing?
Not me. I have red in my office but I would not have thought of a bedroom. I love the way that the reading lamps are attached to the headboard and follow the same squared off lines that the rest of the room does. This room had no overhead lighting. Everything was lamps so you could totally control the lighting and it was not at all harsh.

Again, most of the lines in the room are squared off and straight except a few curves in the sofa cushion, the prints on the wall, and the wall paper that is behind the bed. The colors really give it a rich look and it was Art Deco enough for me to be comfortable. The red throw over the bottom of the bed is not a comforter or quilt, just a piece of hemmed decorative fabric that is about 20 inches wide and85 – 90 inches long.
Because of the color, the lines, and the simplicity the room looked warm, inviting, spacious and airy. Compare that to the room I had in Salado at the bed and breakfast -

Both rooms are warm. Both are calming and comforting but in different ways. They achieve the same end but with very different methods. Keep in mind that you can do that yourself. Decide how you want a room to feel and then decide which style you are going to use to achieve that end.
The red gives a sophisticated, rich look while the blue gives a country, cottage look. Both looks use creamy yellow to balance out the contrasting color.
Interesting isn’t it? How you can get such different looks with the same feel?
